Description

Ready to level up your acting skills? Acting Up! is the perfect next step for young performers who’ve taken Acting Out! (or a similar intro-level class.) In this high-energy, confidence-building course, students will dive deeper into the world of theater through improvisation, character exploration, and dynamic scene work.

Actors will learn how to bring their characters to life with emotion, voice, and movement while discovering the magic of truly listening and responding to scene partners on stage. Along the way, they'll build strong theatre habits, expand their understanding of key terms, and grow in stage presence and creativity.

Prerequisite: Students enrolled in this class must have taken Acting Out with CYT, or an equivalent intro to acting class at a different theater.

Teacher:

Anaka Smith

Anaka grew up in Colorado and has been acting since the age of eight. She attended Pepperdine University on a theatre scholarship where she learned about acting, but also discovered a love for costume design and construction. After moving to Austin and doing community theatre, the Lord brought her to her current calling as a teacher. She taught tech theatre and acting and co-directed two state qualifying UIL one act plays at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville. Now at Austin Classical School, she has taught middle school Shakespeare, history, and science, then kindergarten and most recently 4th grade. Her favorite roles on stage have been Beth in “Little Women” and Alex in “On the Verge”, but her favorite roles in life are as Quinn’s wife, Abram, Selah, Simon, and Moses’s mom and as a beloved daughter of God
